We are an African-focused, client-centric, digitally enabled integrated financial services group with compelling competitive advantages. Our strategy is underpinned by our purpose and revolves around delivering simple, relevant and holistic solutions to our clients through their channel of choice in a seamless manner. Our strategy provides us with the path to get there.
Our history
We have a 158-year history in South Africa, and started building a franchise in sub-Saharan Africa almost 30 years ago. We have an on-the-ground presence in 20 countries on the African continent, and solid local knowledge required to operate a successful business in Africa.

Our presence in and connection with, global financial centres enables us to facilitate investment and development flows in Africa, and to access international capital to facilitate growth, diversification and development in Africa. We also have a strategic partnership with the largest bank in the world, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), who is a 20% shareholder in the group.

The group offers a range of banking and related financial services across sub-Saharan Africa. It has an on-the-ground presence in 20 African countries, 5 global centres and 3 offshore hubs 

The group is listed on the JSE and A2X, with share code SBK, and the Namibian Stock Exchange, share code SNB, with a market capitalisation of approximately R206 billion (approx. USD14 billion ) as at 30 June 2021,

Standard Bank Group’s headline earnings for the six months  ended 30 June 2021 were R11.5 billion (USD790 million) and at 30 June 2021 total assets were R2.5 trillion (USD178 million).

For the six months 30 June 2021, Standard Bank had over 15.7 million clients, employed just over 49 000 people (including Liberty) and had 1 120 branches and 6 623 ATMs on the African continent.
